Ayam Legend Is Here

Ayam Legend Is Here!

Welcome to the blog for Ayam Legend! We have been providing Kuala Lumpur with a taste of the Island of Jamaica every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at Cloth & Clef and are happy to introduce to you our Legendary Grilled Jerk Chicken!

The Jerk Chicken Story:

Jerk Chicken is one of the oldest dishes to come from the Island of Jamaica. From the fire-pit to the grill, the story of Jerk Chicken incorporates influences from Africa, Europe, India and China.

The term jerk is said to come from the word charqui, a Spanish term for jerked or dried meat, which eventually became jerky in English. Another definition of Jerk is poking of the meet with a sharp object to fill the holes with the spice mixture.

These origins can be traced back to the pre-slavery days of the Cormantee hunters of West Africa through the Maroons, who were Jamaican slaves that escaped from the British during the invasion of 1655.
